The Outcome

Since the scope of the project required a drastic change from the original book covers, I chose to use a minimalist approach to the design of the book jackets to contrast the very elaborate illustrations of the original Percy Jackson covers. The design is centered around one key identifiable element of each book; the master bolt for The Lightning Thief, the cyclops eye of Polyphemus for The Sea of Monsters, and a labyrinth for The Battle of the Labyrinth. These elements are used as the focal point of the design and are connected to each other by the line going through the middle of each cover. The colour scheme stays true to the colours of the original covers and the typography of the name of the book, name of the series, and quote on the back cover pays an homage to ancient Greece.
